Opportunities and Direction for Indian Prosumer and Consumer Gen AI
There are two promising directions: “India to the World” and “India for India.” We believe both the themes have merits. The “India for India” approach is compelling, as local companies can build scalable models that meet the language, cultural, and economic needs of Indian users – we will look for a Vernacular AI enabled google searches. The jury is still out and monetization remains a challenge, however, this use case is expected to hit high usage.
In the India to the world theme – AI agents which automate both workflows as well as generate insights in sectors like legal assistance (legal agentic copilot), healthcare (personalised healthcare Jarvis/agent), and digital accounting offer exciting opportunities for Gen AI to bring innovation, efficiency, and accessibility to professional services across the country.

Although some challenges in scaling remain.
Indian startups face challenges in achieving sustained user engagement (most of the startups are still subscale and haven’t seen significant usage spikes), there are numerous indicators of strong potential. Even hitting strong ARPUs from Indian users continues to be a challenge, hence making a better case for India to the world.

Global players such as Picsart, Poe, and Amazon have set a high benchmark in terms of feature innovation and user engagement.
